Nafti signs new Birmingham deal

Medhi Nafti

Birmingham midfielder Medhi Nafti has signed a one-year contract extension, tying him to Blues until next summer.

The 29-year-old Tunisian international's deal was due to expire in the summer but he has taken up the option of a further 12 months.

City manager Alex McLeish said: "Medhi is the type of player I identify with and want to bring to the club.

"He gives everything and he's a great character and brings a good spirit to the dressing room."

Nafti joined Blues from Racing Santander in 2005 and will be trying to take the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt next season.

"He is not afraid to take the ball and that's the type of player I'd like to have at Birmingham City," continued McLeish.

Meanwhile two Blues youngsters have also signed new deals.

Full back Jared Wilson and striker James McPike, both 19, are staying at St Andrew's for another year.

One man who is leaving the club is Rafael Schmitz.

The Brazil-born defender's loan spell has finished and he has returned to his parent club Lille.

He made just 16 times for Blues and last played for the first team in late January.
