Carey aims to break play-off jinx

Bristol City captain Louis Carey is avoiding the temptation to give advice to his team-mates because of his record with City in the play-offs.

"At the end of the day I've had three and lost, so looking at it in that respect I haven't got too much to say to them," he told BBC Points West.

"There's a lot more at stake this time, there's Premiership football for ourselves and the fans.

"So it's a bit different from the last three times we had the play-offs here."

Carey feels that a win at home to Preston on Sunday would end the regular season on the right note for the play-offs, and his team-mates could be getting back to their best form at just the right time.

"I think the performance that we put in against Sheffield United last Saturday showed we can match one of the form teams in the division," said the 30-year-old.

City lost 2-1 at Bramall Lane last Saturday, but manager Gary Johnson said the performance marked a return to the 'real' Bristol City and his captain agrees: "We're at the top of our game, even if it wasn't quite the right result. So we're not afraid of anyone.

"We know that we aren't the team under pressure to get promoted - the sides around us are."
