Zola tells of work permit relief

New Crewe striker Calvin Zola has admitted it was a relief to be granted a fresh work permit, allowing him to join the Alex from Tranmere Rovers.

Zola has completed a £200,000 transfer, but told BBC Radio Stoke he was unsure whether the deal would be done.

"It was a massive relief to be able to obtain the work permit and give to have the chance to further my career.

"The coaching staff and the chairman have been involved in getting the work permit, which is very nice of them."

"Obviously now that it's done, I just want to play football and enjoy myself," added Zola.

The Congolese international has not travelled with the Crewe squad on their pre-season trip to Bulgaria, but will join his new team mates when they return.

He is one of four new signings at the Alexandra Stadium this season, alongside goalkeepers Steve Collis and Adam Legzdins, and midfielder Joel Grant.
