Two-year Shrimps deal for McStay

Henry McStay

Defender Henry McStay has signed a two-year contract with Morecambe.

The 23-year-old, who joined the Shrimps from Royal Antwerp in February, agreed a new permanent deal after a string of impressive performances.

The former Leeds United trainee said: "I have enjoyed my time here and I was really hoping I'd be offered a deal.

"There is a great team spirit and even though the results haven't gone our way of late I'm confident we can compete well again at this level next season."

"I have become stronger the more games I have played and I am looking forward to next season already"

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy was equally delighted with agreeing a deal for the Republic of Ireland under-21 international.

"Henry has showed what a good all round player he is," said McIlroy. "He will be an excellent player to have in our squad.''

McStay, who has made 12 appearances since arriving at Christie Park, is eager to become a regular member of the side.

"On a personal level I'm delighted to have secured my future for the next two years and I hope I can establish myself in the team in that time.

"League Two is harder than I expected I must admit but I have become stronger the more games I have played and I am looking forward to next season already.''
