Nardiello completes switch to QPR

Queens Park Rangers QPR have completed the signing of Barnsley striker Daniel Nardiello.

The 24-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract at Oakwell to pen a two-year deal at Loftus Road after also rejecting a last-gasp bid from Norwich.

Nardiello said: "Once I had heard of QPR's interest and spoken to (manager) John Gregory, my mind was made up.

"I want to cement my place in the side and perform to the best of my ability. I really enjoyed my time at Barnsley but this was the right time to move."

Rangers boss Gregory added: "He could have re-signed for Barnsley, where in my opinion, he would have been somewhat in the comfort zone.

"I wanted to know whether he had the ambition and desire to come to London, where he knows absolutely nobody, and force his way into my team and help QPR progress as a football club."

Nardiello's last-gasp decision has angered Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd who feels the striker has shown a lack of respect towards the club and their fans.

Shepherd told Barnsley's website: "The club are desperately disappointed at Daniel's late, late decision, especially as the deal was all agreed and the paperwork ready on the table for his signature.

"We are also very unhappy at assurances given to us by the player that he would only consider leaving Oakwell for a club closer to his home in the Midlands."
