Speirs expects squad to break up

Queen's Park manager Gardner Speirs admits the break-up of his side is inevitable despite avoiding relegation.

Stevie Canning has a pre-contract agreement with Division Two rivals Brechin City and fellow midfielder Paul Paton is on his way to Partick Thistle.

"There was always going to be a lot of interest in our lads," said Speirs.

"Given the quality of football we have played and the results against the full-time sides in the Second Division, it was inevitable but flattering."

President Garry Templeman issued a warning to those leaving the amateur outfit.

"While there has been reasonable stability within the Queen's Park family over the past three years, at least three of our players will be offered full-time football next season," he told his club website.

"Many others will get part-time offers from various clubs and I would urge caution before acceptance.

"While Queen's Park offer Inland Revenue-approved, expenses-only remuneration, some of the unseen benefits are considerable and are not available elsewhere."
