Rangers abandon bus parade plan
Uefa Cup finalists Rangers have abandoned plans for an open top bus tour through Glasgow because of the death of Celtic legend Tommy Burns.
The team, beaten 2-0 by Zenit St Petersburg on Wednesday, will instead acknowledge their supporters at Ibrox.
"It would be wholly inappropriate to take part in a public procession through Glasgow," a statement said.
"The club would like to extend its sincere condolences to the family of Tommy Burns at this very sad time."
Rangers had been hoping to parade the Uefa Cup round the south side of the city.
They still planned to go ahead even though they lost the final.
But, after the bus ride was cancelled, the returning Rangers players were greeted by a few hundred players outside Ibrox and cheered by about 600 more within the stadium.
