Manager Mark Robins has revealed Rotherham United beat off a number of clubs for the signature of Alex Rhodes.
The winger signed a one-year contract with the Millers on Thursday, after being released by Bradford City.
"At our level the players with the full package are in demand," Robins told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"All clubs are in competition for the same players. A lot of clubs were interested in Alex and I'm glad we have him, as he brings an extra dimension."
The 26-year-old was plagued by injury during his time at Bradford City, as he started just 11 games last season, scoring three goals.
Rhodes was one of 13 players to be released by Bradford.
"I'm glad we have him, as he brings an extra dimension."
Robins added: "I think Alex was outstanding against us when we played Bradford City at Valley Parade last season.
"He has the ingredients in the locker and it's up to him to perform and us to get the best out of him for as often as we can do.
"He's a good addition to the squad, has a lot of pace and will be a threat to defences."
Meanwhile, Millers striker Derek Holmes looks set to leave the club within the next few days.
Holmes was the club's leading scorer with 11 goals last season, but did not score one single goal after his hat-trick against Lincoln City in January.
He is expected to be released a year early from his contract to move nearer to his family in Scotland, with St Johnstone leading the race for his signature.
Elsewhere, the South Yorkshire club are set to meet with their creditors on Friday to discuss their Company Voluntary Arrangement.
Club officials will place an offer of several pence in the pound with the creditors and need a 75% acceptance rate in order to move out of administration.
The Inland Revenue is one of the Millers' biggest creditors, and could reject the offer.
That could then see the club hit by a further points deduction next season. However nothing will be officially be decided at the meeting.
Millers owner Tony Stewart told the Rotherham Advertiser: "Although the meeting will not resolve anything, it should give us a gut feeling about the way things are going to go."
