Tierney sweeps the Shrews board

Marc Tierney has been unanimously voted Shrewsbury Town's player of the season.

He followed up his success at the club's official awards night by sweeping all before him at the supporters' presentation evening.

"I'm really proud," the 22-year-old defender told BBC Shropshire. "This has been my best season in football."

Tierney, signed from Oldham Athletic in January 2007, was chosen by all the different fans' groups, for his 100% commitment in a tough Town season.

Runner-up Ben Herd was voted the Away Travel Club's 'Young Player of the Year', while the Superblues named Chris Humphrey as their most promising youngster.

Tierney is now playing under new Town boss Paul Simpson's management for the second time, having been signed on loan by Simpson at Carlisle three seasons ago.
