Swindon in Austria for pre-season

Swindon Town

Swindon Town have arrived in Austria for a challenging pre-season tour where they will face Champions League sides Steaua Bucharest and Fenerbahce.

Robins keeper Phil Smith expects to be in for a busy week which finishes with a game against FC Klin.

"They are great games and I'm going to be tested throughout the 90 minutes," Smith told BBC Radio Swindon.

"I hope they bring decent teams as they're in pre-season too, so it's a chance to prove myself."

"It was a good end to the season so we need to get back into that mindset"

The players were glad to leave the wet English weather and look forward to better conditions on the continent.

"It's 25 degrees in Austria so it's really good to be away."

"The last week has been all about fitness but now we've got to get our minds set on football," he added.

Despite the lack of signings so far this summer, Smith believes Swindon are capable of competing well in League One this season.

"It was a good end to the season so we need to get back into that mindset."

On their return from Austria, Swindon will play eight more friendlies, three of them at home, against Portsmouth on 18 July (1945 BST), Cardiff City on 29 July (1945 BST) and Plymouth Argyle on 4 August (1945 BST).
