Charlton bow out with heavy loss

By Tony Leighton

Everton's Fara Williams

Relegated Charlton Athletic suffered a 7-0 drubbing at second-placed Everton in their final game of the Women's Premier League season.

Charlton end the season without a win and with 91 goals conceded in 22 games.

But Cardiff City, who are also down, bowed out with a bang as they won 3-2 at third-placed Leeds United.

Chelsea won 3-1 at Birmingham City and will finish fifth unless Watford beat Leeds by at least three goals in their last game of the campaign.

Everton 7-0 Charlton Athletic

Midfielder Fara Williams followed her midweek hat-trick for England with a double for her club as Everton continued their end of season scoring spree.

An eighth-minute Williams penalty put the Toffees on the road to a victory which took their recent goal haul to 23 in four matches.

Jo Potter and Toni Duggan added first-half goals then Jody Handley, Lindsay Johnson, Williams and Duggan - with her fourth goal in three games - completed the rout.

Leeds United 2-3 Cardiff City

Leeds had already clinched third place but seemed to be suffering an FA Cup final hangover as they took on the second-bottom club.

Six days after going down 4-1 to Arsenal in the final, Leeds slid to a more unexpected defeat as the Bluebirds claimed only their third win of the campaign.

The visitors were twice pegged back after going in front, however, Jess Clarke equalising Natasha Harding's opener then Steph Houghton cancelling out Carla Parfitt's strike.

But the home side were unable to force a third equaliser after Kelly Isaac hit Cardiff's decisive third goal.

Birmingham City 1-3 Chelsea

Late goals by strike partners Ellen White and Dunia Susi handed Chelsea victory after they had trailed at the interval through Becky Hall's 40th minute goal.

Captain Casey Stoney levelled the scores six minutes after the break, then White and Susi both struck in the final 11 minutes.
