Matchplay guide

As the World Match Play and the Ryder Cup put the focus on matchplay golf, we asked six experts for their insight into this form of the game.

Unlike strokeplay, where every shot counts and the one with the lowest score wins, matchplay is all about winning holes, with tactics playing a huge part in game.

The lowest score on each hole wins, and the player with the most holes wins the match.
