How to drop the ball

A player may need to drop the ball to take relief or because he or she has declared the ball unplayable or because the ball has landed in a water hazard.

When a ball is to be dropped as near as possible to a specific spot, it must NOT be dropped nearer the hole than the specific spot.

The player must stand straight and hold the ball at shoulder height and at arms length before dropping it straight down.

The ball should be redropped if:

• It rolls more than two club lengths away from where it first struck a part of the course
• It rolls into a hazard
• It rolls out of a hazard
• It rolls onto the green
• It rolls out of bounds
• It rolls into Ground Under Repair
• It rolls nearer the hole than its original position

If having been redropped the ball does any of the above it should be placed on the spot where the ball struck the course.
