Singapore's street circuit will have a unique place in Formula One history when it makes its debut this year.

The south-east Asian city state is to host Formula One's first night race under lights - with most insiders predicting it will be a success.

But if Asian races are to be run at night so F1's core European TV audience can watch at a convenient time, why not just hold the races in Europe?

The answer, of course, is that the new races pay more than the old ones can.
