GAA and AFL discuss Rules future

The fighting started before the throw-in in last year's Second Test

A resumption of the International Rules series appears no nearer after the GAA and the AFL held discussions on the issue in Paris on Thursday.

The series scheduled for this year was called off after the violence which marred last year's two Tests.

A GAA statement said the talks had been "frank and cordial".

However, the statement added that it was "agreed that further discussions were needed before the issue of a resumption could be considered."

The meeting between GAA president Nickey Brennan and player welfare manager Paraic Duffy and AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou was their first get-together since the controversial 2006 series.

A further meeting is planned for early in the New Year and the statement added that "both sides emphasised their commitment to maintaining the long-standing relationship between the two bodies".
