GB women take archery title

Britain's women archers bounced back from poor individual showings to claim the team gold medal.

Anita Chapman, Kathy Smith and Maggie Parker went one better than their silver at Sydney by beating Italy 184-157 in the final to secure the title.

Earlier, the number four seeds overcame Poland 210-168 in their quarter-final clash before upsetting top-ranked Japan 197-191 to earn a showdown with Italy.

Chapman, Smith and Parker all failed to win medals in the individual events.

"I'm ecstatic. It's absolutely wonderful," said team manager David Hilton.

"The final was a revenge match for Sydney and we smashed them today. It was absolutely superb."

Chapman said: "We really wanted the Italians this time and we got them good and proper.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet but I shed a few tears, which I have never done before."
