Humphreys delighted by reception

David Humphreys says the farewell reception he received from Ulster fans at Friday night's game against Cardiff is something he will always remember.

"The crowd at Ravenhill has always been fantastic to me and it was worth coming out for that even if I was disappointed to only be able to play for 10 minutes.

"It was a great experience to run out and I was proud to have two of my children run out with me.

"It was a nice way to finish off my career at Ravenhill," said Humphreys.

The fly-half said he knew he was taking a risk by turning out for his 163rd cap for the province.

"I always knew it was going to be tough after so long out struggling with injury but I had been in the physio room all week and we thought that I could play for 50 or 60 minutes. Unfortunately it turned out to be less than 10.

"Rugby is the thing that has dominated my life for the last 15 years and I have enjoyed many good times, some ups and downs, and met a lot of good people.

"To play for Ulster was always a dream and the big matches I played in and the big European nights are something I will always treasure.

"I am going to take a summer break and then prepare for life in the real world and I am fortunate that I have a job to go to.

"I will however be back at Ravenhill on a regular basis as an avid supporter."
