Rugby union equipment: shorts

Rugby shorts are traditionally made from cotton, designed to take the strains of rugby union.

Second row forwards now use special line-out shorts which have reinforced stitching to help them to get lifted in the line out.

Again, shorts should be comfortable - tight shorts are not only embarrassing, but also increase the chances of sustaining a serious injury.

As with shirts, the longer and baggier shorts are, the easier it will be for opponents to pull you back.
