Scottish Rugby have appointed Glasgow and Scotland assistant coach Sean Lineen as the new coach of Glasgow after the departure of Hugh Campbell.
Campbell has stepped down from the role but Scottish Rugby hope he will take on a specialist coaching role within the country instead.
Chief executive Gordon McKie said: "Glasgow is having a poor and erratic season with disappointing results.
"I believe Sean is ideally placed to make significant improvements."
He added: "The team contribute considerably fewer players to the Scotland international squad than in the past and this is far from ideal and so it's time to make some changes.
"I am part of the problem. I am man enough to say that"
"It's vitally important that Glasgow and all our pro teams do well and that the professional game is a success in Scotland. This has not happened in enough numbers of late so I am looking to Sean to turn this around."
But despite landing the new role, the New Zealand-born Lineen admits he has contributed to Glasgow's problems.
"I take a lot of the responsibility," said Lineen, 44. "I am part of the problem. I am man enough to say that.
"The way the season has gone has been disappointing. There are a number of factors but the bottom line is we are the coaches and we have to get the best out of the players.
"We obviously haven't done that so I do take some of the blame. But I am lucky I do have a chance to turn it around.
"A minor change can work if you create the right environment. We have seen it with the national team and hopefully I can do it with Glasgow."
