England's elite rugby director Rob Andrew does not believe Shaun Edwards can successfully juggle coaching roles with both Wasps and Wales.
Edwards, the Wasps head coach, is close to confirming a part-time role in Warren Gatland's Wales coaching team.
He turned down the chance to run the second-string England Saxons.
But Andrew said: "I think it is quite difficult for somebody to do two jobs. Something will give in that situation, I'm sure."
Andrew added: "We did offer Shaun the Saxons role but it became pretty clear that wasn't where his heart lay."
England coach Brian Ashton said: "Shaun was an outstanding player and is an outstanding coach and would be a massive attribute to any side.
"We would hope to sort things as quickly as we can"
"But it seems he's made his choice to work with an old friend at Wales and I wish him luck, but not too much."
Wasps and the Welsh Rugby Union are currently in discussions over a release contract for Edwards, with the amount of time he spends in Wales one of the main issues.
"I want to improve as a coach, but I don't want to harm my situation at Wasps," Edwards told the Guardian.
"I want to go on coaching there, and really it's just a question of the club and Wales coming to some agreement."

Wasps chief executive Tony Copsey confirmed the WRU had made an official approach for their head coach.
"It is still far from being a done deal," Copsey told BBC Sport Wales.
"But we would hope to sort things as quickly as we can because it runs the risk of being distracting."
Copsey said he would sit down to discuss the situation with Edwards and Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan, hopefully reaching a decision "within the next couple of days".
Gatland told Scrum V Live last week that deals to bring both Edwards and Cardiff Blues backs coach Robert Howley into the Wales set-up were close to being finalised.
Former rugby league great Edwards helped coach Wasps to the Heineken Cup and three Guinness Premiership titles when Gatland was in overall charge.
WRU chief executive Roger Lewis said a deal for him and Blues backs coach Rob Howley was imminent.
"We are at the final stages of discussions with both parties, the Blues and with the Wasps, who have been extremely helpful," he said.
