Olympic events 'damaged' by drugs
A majority of the public are losing faith in the results of Olympic events because of drugs in sport, according to an opinion poll.
A poll for BBC One's Inside Sport found that 58% agreed they had lost faith - against 20% who said they had not.
But the GFK/NOP poll suggests that people are divided on the issue of whether Dwain Chambers should be allowed to run in the Beijing Olympics.
Of those polled, 41% said he should be allowed to compete, with 49% against.
And 40% backed the current two-year ban for drug offences, with 34% in favour of a lifetime ban, and 18% supporting a four-year ban.
Chambers set a new personal best of 6.54 seconds for 60m in the World Indoor Championships to claim a silver medal.
The British athlete arrived at the Valencia competition under a cloud of controversy having been banned from the sport for two years for knowingly taking drugs in 2003.
He has hinted that he may challenge the lifetime Olympic ban imposed by the British Olympic Association in the High Court.
GFK/NOP questioned 928 adults between 7 and 9 March 2008, with a margin of error of just over 3%.
