5 July:
Rugby league:
Wales opened their Student World Cup campaign in style in Brisbane with a 32-12 win over Ireland.

Christian Roets led the way with two tries with Grant Epton, Rhys Griffiths and Craig Fox also crossing.


4 July:
Rugby union:
The Welsh Rugby Union have appointed a new national coach development manager to help improve coaching standards across the country.

John Schropfer, who has worked for the WRU for 17 years in various roles, will start immediately in a role which will span all levels of the game.

His main aim will be to increase the number of Welsh coaches capable of coaching at international level in Wales.

"I believe we already have a lot of very good coaches but we need more and we need enough to create a bigger pool of talented players," he said.


2 July:
Rugby union:
Llanelli Scarlets have appointed Ryan Campbell as their new assistant conditioning coach.

The 33-year-old's most recent post was a two-year stint as the National Academy trainer for the Welsh Rugby Union.

Prior to that Campbell had spent three years with Newport Gwent Dragons and three years with Ebbw Vale.


30 June:
Tennis: Mold youngster Matthew James and partner Matthew Short lost their first round match in the Wimbledon Boys' Doubles event in straight sets, 7-6 and 6-2, against the American second seeds Ryan Harrison and Bradley Klahn.
