Dallas beat Detroit 3-1 on Wednesday to keep their NHL Western Conference title series alive at the same margin.
Third-period goals from Mike Modano and Brenden Morrow snapped a 1-1 tie as the Stars bounced back from losing the first three games against the Wings.
Dallas took their first lead of the series when Loui Eriksson swept in a rebound with late in the second period.
But Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg blasted in an equaliser less than a minute into the third period.
"When they scored 50 seconds into the third, you start to think 'oh no, here we go again'," admitted Morrow.
"But we were mentally tough, got out and took advantage of the power
play and got a couple of breaks."
The series goes back to Detroit for game five on Saturday.
Pittsburgh lead Pennsylvania rivals Philadelphia 3-0 in the Eastern Conference finals, with game four on Thursday.
